Niagara North AAA Major Bantam Stars

Grey Bruce Looking for Highland After a Beating at the Hands of the Stars.

Updated Thursday November 1, 2012 by Anita Beating.

The bus trip to Chesley Arena is always an eventful one for the players and parents alike for the 98 Niagara North Stars hockey club. The day started with a 7:45am coach bus arrival at the St Catharines Seymour Hannah Arena. The team was Niagara North but the driver must have read Ms. Daisy as the expected 11am arrival was pushed back to 11:35; leaving the team little time to prepare for their noon game. The Stars went up 3-0 early and the Highlanders began taking liberties which included late hits after the whistle, slew foots, unsportsmanlike conducts and misconducts. In the end; an irritated Stars team took a 4-0 win into the afternoon of their Saturday double header. The afternoon was passed with a team lunch and a pre-game nap before the evening showdown. The night game was no different on the scoreboard. Niagara North again played a majority of the game in the offensive zone in what appeared to be a well disciplined match through two periods. The final seconds of the second period set the tone for the third period as eight penalty minutes were handed out prior to the second period’s conclusion. Irritated, the Stars used the intermission to regroup in what the coaching staff was hoping would be an uneventful third period. The third period looked more like a penalty contest than a hockey game as eleven head checking penalties were handed out in a six minute stretch. Tired of watching a team that was trailing 4-0 take liberties on Stars players a Niagara North forward decided to go toe-to-toe with the Highlanders toughest player. While the Stars forward looked like he was content on wearing boxing gloves, his counterparts gloves appeared to be filled with clay as he went to the ground like a sack of bricks. Maybe next time bud.... Stars win 4-0 on the score sheet; 1-0 on the Saturday night card. The game marked Niagara North’s fourth straight shutout dating back to Saturday October 27th.
